Leon Wasser, President and CEO is a lifelong environmentalist and an innovative environmentalist. His first “environmental” campaign was a bottle drive for a community charity at age 12. Leon holds a diploma in Pure & Applied Science and a degree in Civil Engineering from McGill University supplemented by graduate school studies in alternative energy engineering studies at Montreal's Concordia University and environmental studies at York University. He also holds an MBA degree with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Public Policy from York University's Schulich School of Business. Leon has taught Business Ethics and Canadian Business History at the Schulich School of Business and won the Seymour Schulich Award for Teaching Excellence in his first year of teaching there.

Leon's green career began with co-administering a food co-op program at college and representing Canada's Petrosol, Canada's first solar energy company, while he pursued his engineering studies. Leon worked in consulting engineering during and following his engineering studies, and then worked as an engineer for two agencies of the Government of Canada. He then worked in facilities planning and management and business operations at York University, where he was involved in the design and implementation of numerous environmental and waste management initiatives, including:

  • A massive university-wide recycling program, the largest non-municipal program in Canada
  • A university-wide port-a-mug program to reduce paper waste and litter
  • A university-wide resident canvas tote bag program
  • A green transportation plan for York University

Leon Wasser is also the founder of Green Market Canada (http://www.Green-Market.ca) and has pioneered the development of several innovative energy conservation companies (www.powerecon.ca, www.lightingdrive control.com).
